Coffee cultivation is one of the main economic activities which is carried out by most farmers in some rural areas in Cameroon and it is a major source of livelihood. Over the years, the prices of coffee in the world market have been descouraging. Using primary and secondary sources of data, focus group discussion, this study investigates coffee cultivation in the Noni Sub-Division from the 1990s to 2014. It also looks at the general trends in coffee production in the Noni Sub- Division from 1990 to 2014. The results reveal that the cultivation of coffee in the area has been strongly affected by the low prices of coffee in the world market as well as the liberalization of the coffee sector in Cameroon. The study equally revealed that the socio-economic development of Noni Sub-Division strongly depends on the cultivation of coffee though the development is often affected by the low prices of coffee. The  formation of Cooperative Societies in lagging areas, the stabilization of prices by the government and training of farmers will go a long way in improving on the coffee sector in this region and Cameroon as a whole. The Efficiency of Urban Planning Regulations on Environmental Management in Bamenda, North West Cameroon

In the past five decades or so, rapid rate of urbanisation and urban development and urban environmental planning and management has become a cardinal issue to urban dwellers, government institutions and professionals in the developed and developing countries. It is in furtherance to this that this paper examines the efficiency of urban planning regulations on environmental management in Bamenda. Field surveys, participant observations, questionnaire administration, interviews and on-the-spot appraisals constituted the main data sources. The findings have revealed that Bamenda is replete with an avalanche of robust urban planning regulations. Irrespective of these robust laws, it was pathetic to observe that the integration of environmental management into urban development planning was sub-optimal as over 63% of the respondents claimed ignorance on the existence of these legislations. In the context of such a seismic shift in awareness, most environmental benchmarks for sustainable urban planning have remained trapped in an environmental time-warp due to non-adherence to these regulations as a result of ignorance of their existence. This has brought about negative reverberations, ushering the urban environment of Bamenda into a frivolous path to profligacy. In order for sustainable urban planning and management to be deeply entrenched in Bamenda, this paper proffers for a synergy between government and non-government agencies responsible for urban development planning. Over the years, the government of Cameroon has been very instrumental in her struggle towards ensuring increased agricultural productivity. This has been exemplified through the creation of agricultural parastatals to educate the farmers, the provision of high quality seeds as well as the provision of extension services and subsidies to farmers. In spite of the fact that a lot of effort has been put in North West Region, present trends show that agricultural productivity has been declining in many areas. This paper examines constraints to agricultural advancement within this plain using both primary and secondary sources of data.  The results show that there is usually a scramble for resources used without adequate management leading to over exploitation and depleting of rangeland resources. It was also revealed that e low yield in crops are attributed to variations in the period the rains come and their intensity, poor quality seeds, pests and diseases.Hence, there is need to organize mass sensitization campaigns against bush burning and embark on sustainable rangeland management by supporting grazers to carry out improved pasture development Keywords: Agricultural advancement, rangeland resources, climatic variation, crop yield, improved pasture developmen

Transport as an Impediment to an Economically Endowed Region: The Case of Ekondo -Titi Sub Division of Cameroon Transport as an Impediment to an Economically Endowed Region: The Case of Ekondo -Titi Sub Division of Cameroon 1

ABSTRACT Ekondo -Titi which has been described as the economic nerve centre of Ndian Division exhibits a plethora of growth potentials which make it an economically endowed town. Viable as this area may seem, it has been difficult to convert such viability to economic development. This is largely due to the fact that the area is poorly developed in terms of road and maritime transport. This paper examines the problems of road and water transport in Ekondo -Titi Sub-Division of Cameroon with a close look at the characteristics of the water and road transport modes. This paper also identifies the operational deficiencies that prevent transport from fulfilling its role in the development of the Sub-Division. Using a combination of field observations, interviews and group discussion with the different economic operators, it was observed that the prices of basic commodities such as building materials have increased significantly due to the high cost of transportation to the area. This has therefore slowed down the economic take -off of the Sub-Division for most parts of the year. The study presents proposals for appropriate remedial action both within the context of transport between this region and other areas of the South West Region and Cameroon in general
